Karla grew up in Anaheim, CA and received her B.S. in Community Health Education from Cal State Long Beach. After graduation, she ventured to Ngong, Kenya, where she helped develop microfinance programming for the nonprofit organization, Living Positive Kenya. Inspired by her experiences abroad and her passion for women empowerment, Karla began volunteering with the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. Her first full-time position was spent working at Seneca Family of Agencies where she provided case management services and led teams in developing behavioral interventions for some of Orange County’s most vulnerable families. During her tenure at Seneca Family of Agencies, Karla built a reputation for planning events to build company culture including foodie adventures, the inaugural Staff Appreciation Day and Wellness Wednesdays. Karla decided to pursue her Master of Science in Social Entrepreneurship after seeing the disconnect between nonprofits and sustainable business solutions. She is currently working for an LA philanthropist managing nonprofit accounts while continuing to build business acumen. Karla enjoys traveling, taking random classes (typography, flower arranging, etc.), singing off-key, and laughing until she cannot breathe.
